TANLAP RECOMMENDATION TO THE PALIAMENTARIAN COMMETTEE ON CONSTITUTION AND LEGAL AFFAIRS ON LEGAL AID BILL

TANLAP in partnership with WiLDAF Tanzania and other stakeholders were busy last week in Dodoma persuading the Parliamentary committee on the Constitutional and Legal Affairs to accept Legal Aid Provider’s recommendations to improve the Legal Aid Bill.

TANLAP and its delegation aired their views on the Incumbent Bill together with the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) (No.4) Act, 2016.

A COURTESY VISIT TO TANLAP BY IRENE AND EMERSON FROM WASHINGTON DC

Last Friday we received Irene Petras and Emerson Sykes,the Legal Advisors from International Center for not for Profit Law,Washington DC.they had an opportunity to hear what Legal Aid Providers in Tanzania have been doing to the needy majority in the grassroots,success and challenges they encounter. they have cheered the good work and LAPs Achievement in promoting Access to Justice in Tanzania.

ADVOCACY FOR REALIZATION OF THE LEGAL AID LEGISLATION

A team of Legal Aid Providers under the coordination of TANLAP Secretariat last week met with two Parliamentary committees(The social welfare committee and the Constitution and legal affairs committee),The aim of the meeting was to share with the Parliamentarians TANLAP Legal aid situation report for the year 2013/14 and 2014/15. this awareness to the MP's will help prepare them for a fruitful discussion when the recently read bill of Legal Aid is brought for discussion in the House and also during the public hearing.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

Monitoring and Evaluation is still in progress where by TANLAP staff Ms. Edna Bakebwa visited some of the TANLAP members in Dar es salaam, in pictures are Buguruni paralegal,Kigogo paralegal, Makangarawe Youth Information and Development Centre,Kituo cha wasaidizi wa Kisheria cha Jamii(KIWAKIJA) and National Legal Information Centre(NALIC).
