Legal Support Network on Family Law Issues meeting with Hon. Dr. Dorothy Gwajima - The Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special groups

TANLAP conducted a working session of the Legal Support Network on Family Law Issues established under Mwanamke Imara project. The session aimed to consult Honorable Dr. Dorothy Gwajima - the Minister of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special group on the need of having a specific Anti Gender Based Violence (GBV) Act. During the session, Ms. Christina Kamili - TANLAP Executive Director presented the proposed Anti- GBV bill, the Code of Conduct for Family Law Practitioners, and the analysis of various laws that currently addressing GBV in Tanzania, which appears to have challenges in addressing GBV comprehensively. Dr. Gwajima said “I commend your efforts for proposing and developing the Anti GBV Draft Bill. Having a comprehensive law Against GBV (Anti GBV Law) is very important compared to how GBV is addressed currently with different laws in place''. The Minister committed to continue working with TANLAP under Mwanamke Imara project to ensure a Specific Anti GBV Law is enacted. The proposed Act is expected to harmonize the existing laws addressing GBV. The event was held at Sea Shells Hotel - Dar es salaam.
