TANLAP with Members of the Parliament discuss on the need to have a specific Anti-Gender-Based Violence Act.

TANLAP under Mwanamke Imara Project organised a consultative session with Members of the Parliament to discuss on the need to have a specific Anti-Gender-Based Violence Act. The meeting was held under the leadership of Hon. Shally Raymond (MP) who is the Chairperson of Tanzania Women Parliamentary Group (TWPG). The discussion revealed that due to fragmented laws that addressing GBV, it is the right time for Tanzania to enact Anti- GBV Act to address the increasing GBV incidences in the country picking the experience from the Anti GBV Act of SADC. As the way foward, It was agreed that, TANLAP should orgarnise another working session with majority of members of parliament to discuss in details the proposed Anti-GBV Bill prepared by Mwanamke Imara project under Legal Support Network on Family Law Issues after consultative meeting with Hon. Dr. Damas Ndumbaro (MP)- Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, and Hon. Dr. Dorothy Gwajima (MP)- Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups. The session that will discuss in details all provisions of the proposed Anti- GBV Draft Bill in comparison with the SADC Anti -GBV Act as well as our specific national context. The event was held on 6th September 2022 at Dodoma.
